BIO
Skeptix, Spinyl and Mephisto - These are just a few of the aliases seminal producer Jon Drukman has used to create some of the most unique and inspired electronic music unleashed on these shores. From his emergence with the early rave collective, Ultraviolet Catastrophe and their underground anthem "Trip Harder", through Bass Kittens and Artificial Intelligence projects, Jon has established himself as one of the most influential forces in American dance culture. Not one to limit himself to a specific genre, Jon has fully realized his latest guise, Random, and has presented it to us with his debut album, Too Stoned To Sneeze>Without Regretting It. An eclectic mix of abstract forms, leftfield breakbeats and rumbling basslines, Without Regretting It displays 11 sonic tracks that push the electronic envelope wide open. Tempos and styles shift and change as each track delivers a journey through this dynamic and influential genre. Through drawing textural cues from such leftfield pioneers are Aphex Twin, Autechre and Boards of Canada and fusing them with the breakbeat menace of such notables as Optical and Ed Rush, Random has crafted a sound that is uniquely his own. This sentiment is confirmed by Jon when stating that "The style in which the music of Random is created is completely organic". Each track moves and sways through an aural landscape that forces the listener to throw away it's preconceptions of electronic music. Without Regretting It carefully builds layer upon layer with agility and stealth ultimately delivering an intelligent workout of massive proportions. Unlike many of today's electronic outfits, Jon has no plans to turn his Random alter-ego into a touring spectacle. "I like the fact that more artists are creating a live aspect to their music bit for this it just wouldn't work. I think the best environment in which to experience Random is that of a comfortable chair and a pair of headphones that have the capacity to make your ears bleed." A counter-action to a genre subdued by its own lack of innovation, Without Regretting It displays a focus that is above and beyond it's station. Thankfully, the tired form and function of the dance floor has been usurped by cerebral invention, forcing the listener to think before they dance. "To most people this is still a new expression of music but as an artist I feel compelled to push boundaries and blue the confines set by other". The Random alias is further proof that Jon Drukman is ahead of his, and our, collective times and Too Stoned To Sneeze>Without Regretting It is our chance to catch up. |
